Re: February 2010 President’s Message

Years ago when I first joined the Claims Association, it was primarily a social club. In fact, prior to lunch, there was a "happy hour" and a lot of social interaction. Things have completely changed in the industry as well as in our mindset as to what we expect from our Claims Association. It is about education, networking and, although we still try to relax and enjoy, the time that we spend at our association plays a far more important role in our lives.

Adjusters need certification and education credits. Insurance companies expect their employees to prioritize learning and education and the industries that service the insurance community need the exposure and information as well as the educational opportunity. With this in mind, we are proud to be affiliated with the Claims Conference of Northern California (CCNC). We are proud to offer excellent regionally known speakers at our luncheons, and we are proud to be part of an organization dedicated to serving the citizens of the State of California.

All of us who attend our luncheons and meetings and CCNC seminars understand that we provide a very important service to the community at large. People expect us to be knowledgeable. People expect us to know what we are doing. Towards that end, we are attempting at every opportunity to provide the kind of educational opportunities that allow our members to learn and become better at what they are doing.

Of course, we are not opposed to having a good time. Our 2009 golf tournament was a great success. Our Holiday Party yielded dozens of toys for “Toys For Tots” and our raffles at luncheons are always a big favorite.

We have a wonderful lineup of guest speakers with CERTIFICATION featuring Mark Berry as our guest is set for the February luncheon. If you and/or your colleagues need or want to obtain a DOI Certification Certificate, be sure to attend.
