This morning as I was sitting at my desk I was pondering the enormous message from the American Electorate. This is the morning after Barrack Obama’s election to the Presidency and a sweep by most Democrats. Whether you are happy or unhappy with the outcome, obviously, people saw this as a time for change and hope for their future. It certainly is a historical moment in our Country and I am hopeful and prayerful that the incoming administration, along with the near super majority the Democrats will have in both the Senate and Congress, will move our Country beyond partisanship politics and provide concrete and effective solutions to the Country’s problems. Only time will tell.

We, too, had our elections at MVCA. They were conducted during our October 16, 2008 meeting. Your new 2009 officers will be President: Marvin Wenograd, Vice-President: Barbara Hall, Treasurer: Steve Wenograd, Secretary: Gaye Bishop, and your Directors will be Magna Caldera, Deena Lucero, John Tucker, Sherry Wenograd and Don Wood. They are here to serve you.

I would like to thank our October speaker, Dan Quinn of the law offices of Quinn & Kronlund. He is a Stockton mediator who has been quite effective over the years. He has spoken to us before and provided us with useful suggestions on successful mediation, along with his terrific humor.

This month’s meeting will be on Friday, November 21, 2008 at Papapavlo’s Bistro. Dale Thayer with the law firm of Curtis & Arata was going to provide his annual summary of important legal decisions that effect claims handlers. Unfortunately, due to a scheduling conflict, Mr. Thayer will not be able to attend. In his place will be an associate of his, Colleen Van Egmond. I look forward to her presentation and hope you can join us.

At this time I would like to remind you that we will be having our annual holiday mixer on Friday night, December 19, 2008 at Papapavlo’s Bistro. This will be in place of our usual luncheon meeting earlier in the day. I hope you can make it. I am looking forward to a delightful evening with our members.
