As I sit here preparing this message for you all, it is hard to believe that this is October 2008. I am coming to the end of my second term as your President. It has been my pleasure to work toward the good of your Claims Association. I would like people to think about individuals within our association and, in particular, claims adjusters who would like to be a good steward of their time and talent. If there were any individuals whom you believe would be good on the Board of Directors or as officers, please make a recommendation to a Board member. In November, we will have our election of Officers and Board members for the coming year.

What can one say about Ulises Castellon with Fire Cause Analysis? He made a presentation at our September 19, 2008 meeting on the anatomy of an arson fire. He went through the major players and background of an unusual arson that occurred in Northern California and had our members thoroughly enjoying playing the parts of the various parties of the incident and in the actual facts of what had transpired. Mr. Castellon is always a welcomed speaker at our meetings. It had been several years since he had spoken and I will look forward to the next time our Association has the opportunity to have him present to us.

This month we have a well-known former defense attorney, Dan Quinn with the law firm of Quinn & Kronlund, speaking to us. Mr. Quinn is a court-appointed master mediator and handles many voluntary mediations. I have always enjoyed Mr. Quinn’s humor and his ability to get down to the facts and try to impress upon the plaintiffs and their attorney the need to be realistic and have a matter resolved. I guarantee you will not be disappointed in his upcoming presentation.

Tuesday, November 4 is Election Day. If you have not registered, it is not to late. Registrations are due by October 20. Please review the ballot and the propositions so you can make an informed decision concerning our country, our county, and our cities. Be sure to VOTE!

As a last note, I would like to remind people that on Friday, December 19, 2008, we will have our Holiday Mixer at Papapavlo’s Bistro. The Association will be providing the hors d'oeuvres and some beverages for members and their guests. Please be sure to put it on your calendar. We look forward to seeing you there.
