Busy Summer Under Way

June Message From 2008 MVCA President
John Tucker

Today is the Monday following our regular third Friday of the month luncheon at Papapavlo’s Bistro, as I write to you. Everybody seemed to be having a very good time enjoying the food, and our speaker had plenty of time to address us and the meeting adjourned at 1:00 giving people the timely opportunity to get back to work.

I would like to thank Sean Shimada, Ph.D., a biomechanical expert with Biomechanical Consultants of California, out of Davis, California, for providing us a very informative 40-45 minute program. He spoke on basically what a biomechanical engineer is and what they can and cannot do as it relates to the body’s physical mechanics in an accident resulting in an injury. He took questions along the way. There is much that goes into their calculations including age, height, weight, seat position, restraints and any preexisting injuries, etc. I personally look forward to utilizing Dr. Shimada on my files in the future.

As Friday, June 27th is our annual golf tournament being held at Lockeford Springs Golf Course near the town of Lockeford, California, we are not having our normal third Friday of the month luncheon. We hope you all can come out to the golf tournament. If you are not a golfer or cannot get that time off, perhaps you can join us for dinner. Golf is only $100 per person, which includes lunch, a round of golf with a cart, range balls, dinner and two drink tickets at the bar. Dinner only is $25 per person. If any of our members or vendor members have not been contacted and would like to sponsor a hole, the lunch, co-sponsor the dinner or other sponsorships, please contact our treasurer, Steven Wenograd, at Frontier Adjusters in Stockton, (209) 478-1422.

Our next regularly scheduled luncheon meeting will be Friday, July 18, 2008. Again, it will be a Papapavlo’s Bistro. Our speaker is going to be the local well-known former defense attorney and master mediator Dan Quinn with the law firm of Quinn & Kronlund. I have known Dan Quinn for over 30 years and am always pleased when he is the agreed selection as a mediator on one of my files. He is a very hands-on assertive mediator. He understands each side’s needs and conceptions. He is going to be talking to us on negotiation and mediation and “Getting to Yes”. I hope you can make the meeting.

Lastly, this is my next to the last opportunity to remind everyone and invite you to the Claims Conference of Northern California to be held in Sacramento at the Hyatt Regency on July 24-25, 2008. Your association through members and board members along with a hopeful sponsorship will have a presence at the CCNC. These seminars are very informative and do provide you with effective tools to use immediately on one’s files.

In the meantime, I hope you all have a fantastic summer.
