Just about as dependable as the crowd of folks who tend to turn out for the annual golf tournament, the annual MVCA California “Fair Claims Settlement Practices” regulations recertification luncheon meeting is a popular happening for the Association.
Every bit as dependable has become attorney Mark Berry, who has been presenting these sessions every year for at least the past five years. So it was at the April 18, 2008 MVCA luncheon meeting, as more than 60 people turned out, filling the expanded room at Papapavlo’s.
The basic thrust of the regulations is to mandate that claims adjusters “must investigate in good faith and resolve claims in a timely fashion,” said Berry.
He covered the necessary territory, highlighting the need to maintain proper time lines. Substantial penalties loom over claims people, ranging from $5,000 for each “screw-up”, he said, to $10,000 if it was an intentional act.
Certificates were made available for all in attendance.
