STOCKTON - There was a bit of a buzz in the air as folks gathered for the first Mid-Valley Claims Association luncheon meeting at Papapavlo’s Mediterranean Bistro here Friday, March 21, 2008. Good quality service and tasty food, with several menu options from which to choose, followed by dessert and coffee, the change to Papapavlo’s appears by all rights to be the best ticket in town.

On top of that, the good-sized crowd were treated to an entertaining and informative presentation on Employment Practices Liability from attorney Adam Corren, of the Law Offices of Corren and Corren.

A specialist in employment matters, Mr. Corren utilized his knowledge to create a forum with the members and guests in attendance, effectively engaging and involving the group in a discussion on various levels of employment issues. Such a broad-based topic allowed for many perspectives to be brought to the table, and he provided a safe space for people to ask someone in the know about their own employment practices concerns.

“This was a really wonderful meeting,” said one long time member. “Good to see so many people being engaged in the subject matter,” said MVCA Treasurer Steve Wenograd.

The meeting also marked a debut for Wenograd, as he ran the proceedings, seeming natural in so doing.
Steve had actually invited Adam Corren to speak, as the two have history together. Steve informed the group during his introduction that he clerked for Corren & Corren when he was still in law school.

Mr. Corren focused the forum discussion on discrimination, harassment, slander/defamation, and wrongful termination. He quickly got others in on the act, asking questions of the crowd that not only gave him a clearer sense of who all he was addressing, but got people thinking about how these issues affect them. Many expressed their perspective of what is legal and what constitutes crossing the line. Most were amazed at how much more is legal, with regard to employment law, than they had imagined.

Mr. Corren has been practicing law since 1996, with the majority of his practice consisting of Employment Law. He is a past president of the San Joaquin County Bar Association, and is an involved participant within the community.
